Over the last week, the Coronavirus Covid-19 outbreak has wiped out much of the international show calendar for the next two months. In their latest newsletter, the FEI informs that every aspect of the sport is being monitored and that action will be taken wherever needed in order to provide support to national federations, organisers, athletes, officials and the entire equestrian industry.

The FEI is currently reviewing measures to limit the impact of all the event cancellations on world ranking points. One potential solution is the possibility of prolonging the period for which points remain valid, so that riders do not lose points during the period that shows are cancelled.

Furthermore, many of the cancellations include events where riders could obtain their Minimum Eligibility Requirements (MER) for Tokyo 2020. The deadline to achieve the MER was set to June 1st 2020, but the FEI has stated that it is looking for flexible solutions – such as rescheduling cancelled events and potentially extending the timeline around the MER without modifying the requirements themselves.

With the first leg of the Longines FEI Jumping Nations Cup™ Europe Division 1 in La Baule cancelled, the Jumping Committee will be looking at the series as a whole. The FEI is also working closely with the European Equestrian Federation (EEF) on the EEF series.

The FEI has also collected all cancelled events in their calendar.
