EHV-1 (neurological form)

Yesterday, on the 10th of March, the FEI was advised of ten horses testing positive for EHV-1 after returning home from the Sunshine Tour in Vejer de la Frontera, Spain. These ten confirmed positives come in addition to the positive in Belgium earlier this week, meaning the total number recorded by the FEI currently stands at eleven.

Among the ten horses, six returned positive tests in France and four in Belgium. The new positives include the first horse that displayed neurological signs in the isolation stables at the Sunshine Tour on 4th of March 2021.

All 2,053 horses that have participated at the Sunshine Tour since 9 February 2021 have already been blocked in the FEI database and riders have been advised of the necessary biosecurity measures that must be implemented prior to return to competition. The riders were also advised not to participate in any training sessions or national competitions with their horses, nor any breeding activities.

Furthermore, the FEI has agreed on a protocol with the Sunshine Tour-organisers for athletes who wish to keep their horses onsite at the venue for the required 21-day isolation period.
