The Swiss website Le Cavalier Romand reports that Paul Estermann’s former top mare Castlefield Eclipse (Obos Quality 004 x Furisto) has passed away. The 17-year-old mare was retired from the sport in the spring of 2018 to spend her time breeding in Belgium, where two surrogate mares now expect her foals by Emerald Van ‘t Ruytershof.
Castlefield Eclipse had huge success with Estermann in the saddle, and the two of them were part of the Swiss team at the Olympic Games in London in 2012, at the Europeans in Herning in 2013, at the World Equestrian Games in Caen in 2014 and at the Europeans in Aachen in 2015 where they won team bronze. In 2014, the pair won the five-star Grand Prix of St. Gallen.
