At the age of 29, Gerco Schröder's former Olympic partner Eurocommerce Monaco (Locato x Romino) has passed away. With Schröder in the saddle, Monaco jumped to a bronze medal with the Dutch team at the 2005 European Championships in San Patrignano and also competed at the 2008 Olympic Games in Hong Kong as well as in Athens in 2004.

Schröder has published the following statement on his official Instagram account:

"Sweet Monaco, today we had to let you go at an age of 29. Monaco always had been a fantastic horse with a huge heart. We jumped the World Cup final, won team bronze at the Europeans in 2001. In 2004 and 2008 we did the Olympics together. We are grateful that he could enjoy his well deserved retirement for more than 10 years with us and his buddy Montreal. RIP Monaco, thank you for everything and you’re always in our hearts."
