Henk Nooren, the former chef d'equipe for the French jumping team, has been appointed as team manager for Scuderia 1918 – an Italian equestrian team that supports several riders such as Kevin Staut, Lorenzo de Luca, Giulia Martinengo Marquet and Giampiero Garofalo. In his new role, Nooren "(...) will oversee Scuderia 1918’s elite team of riders and horses, including the youngest talents, guiding them with strategies and performance," Scuderia 1918 stated in a press release.
The 69-year-old, who first worked with the French team from 2009 to 2012, was in charge of the French jumping squad from 2019 until the end of 2024. The French riders have had plenty of success with Nooren in charge, and claimed team bronze on home soil at the 2024 Olympic Games before he stepped down from his role.
“We are thrilled to welcome Henk Nooren into our team,” Emanuele Anchisi, co-founder of Scuderia 1918, said in the press release. “Since our visions match 100%, we believe his guidance will lead to exponential growth and to the achievement of important milestones based on equine welfare, good technique and team spirit”
“What attracted me immediately, when Scuderia 1918 offered me a chance to come and work together, were the many different projects in which Scuderia 1918 is operating," Nooren explained in the press release. "First it allows me to remain in contact with the high level sport, and then to be part of various research programs, all around and with the horse. I’m very curious and happy to be part of and to be able to contribute to that”.
