Jos Verlooy's Igor (Emerald x Nabab de Reve) will be retired from the sport, the Belgian rider announced yesterday. A post on social media, shared by EuroHorse and Verlooy, read:

"Today, with full hearts, we reflect on the incredible journey of Igor — a true champion who brought us unforgettable memories and outstanding victories with Jos Verlooy. Together, they reached extraordinary heights, shining on the world's biggest stages.

From breathtaking clears to podium finishes, Igor has left an indelible mark on our hearts and in the history of EuroHorse. As he steps into a well-deserved retirement, we look back on every moment with gratitude and pride. Thank you, Igor, for your passion, power, and unwavering heart."

With Verlooy in the saddle, the now 16-year-old gelding won team gold and individual bronze at the 2019 European Championships in Rotterdam. Furthermore, Igor and Verlooy jumped on the Belgian teams at the 2018 World Equestrian Games in Tryon and at the 2022 World Championships in Herning. In 2018, the pair also jumped double clear to help Belgium win the CSIO5* Nations Cup in Rotterdam. During their career they took five-star wins at venues such as Doha, Paris and Tryon, and additionally they had a number of podium finishes on the highest level world-wide.

At World of Showjumping, we wish Igor a happy retirement!
