Katie Dinan has retired her now 18-year-old gelding Brego R'N B (Namelus R x Gerlinus) from the sport, after a long and successful career. With Dinan in the saddle, Brego R'N B won last year's CSI5* 1.60m Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ in Washington. That same year, the pair also won two CSI3* 1.50m Grand Prix classes at Traverse City Spring Horse Shows and was third in the CSI4* 1.55m Upperville Jumper Classic. They have several five- and four-star podium finishes to look back at during their time together, including in the CSI5* 1.60 Hampton Classic Grand Prix and the CSI4* 1.55 Old Salem Farm Grand Prix. They also represented the USA at the 2022 Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ Final in Leipzig, Germany. Before Dinan took over the reins in 2019, Brego R'N B was successful with Dutch rider Angelique Hoorn.

“Over the past five years, I have been so fortunate and grateful to have Brego as my competition partner,” Dinan told World of Showjumping. “As a horse, he is truly magnificent — his sheer athleticism, his unending stores of energy, his bravery, his talent over the jumps, his lightness off the ground, his huge step — all of these made him an amazing Grand Prix horse. As a friend — he never let me down, he understood the sport, and he always tried to do the right thing. I will miss walking into big arenas with him, watching Brego take in the setting, the crowd, and jumps, and knowing he would give his all. Brego, thank you for everything! From the Grand Prix wins, to World Cup Finals and Nations Cups, to trail rides around North Salem — I am so thankful for all of it and will relish the memories. And a big thank you from me and Brego to his groom Lou Beudin, who has been his best friend since his first day in our stable, to Beat Mändli, who brought us together and coached us each step along the way, to everyone at my family’s stable, Staysail, and to my family for their endless support.”

“Brego, I hope you enjoy the rest of your days at our farm in North Salem, with NuNu (Nougat du Vallet) and Dougie (Dougie Douglas). I am sure you three have a lot to talk about! And I feel like the luckiest girl in the world that you all live together in front of my family’s house, and I promise I will always visit with a carrot. I love you!”

At World of Showjumping, we wish Brego a happy retirement!
