The 16-year-old Holsteiner stallion Contagio (Colman x Lordanos) is being retired from the sport, and will in the future focus fully on his breeding career.

Contagio has had a long and successful career, first with Lars Nieberg – and then with Max and Gerrit Nieberg. With Gerrit in the saddle, the handsome stallion won the CSI3* Grand Prix in Frankfurt in 2017. Contagio also has podium finishes from Nörten-Hardenberg, Drachten, Cagnes-sur-Mer, Kronenberg, Salzburg, Liège and Spangenberg to look back at.

The Nieberg-family owns the stallion together with Hendrik Snoek of Gut Berl, and they made the mutual decision to retire him. “We actually wanted to say farewell to him at the ‘Turnier der Sieger’ in Münster,” Lars Nieberg says. “But due to the corona pandemic that is not possible anymore. Waiting another year didn’t make sense to us and since Contagio is very popular among the breeders, he can now focus totally on breeding.”

Contagio already has successful offspring in the sport, such as Con Taggio – previously seen with Beezie Madden, Cessna – seen with Georgina Bloomberg, McLain Ward’s Contagious and Henrik von Eckermann’s Best Boy.
