USA's Lillie Keenan has announced the retirement of her 14-year-old gelding Super Sox (Salito x Silvio I).

On her official instagram page, Lillie Keenan writes: “After a lot of consideration, we’ve decided that it is time for Super Sox to end his competition career. I look forward to sharing the coming years with him as he enjoys the next phase of his life.”

With Keenan in the saddle, Super Sox enjoyed great success – winning the CSI4* 1.50m ‘Lotto Hessen-Preis’ in Wiesbaden in 2017 as well as finishing third in the Grand Prix at the same venue. The pair also finished second in the CSIO5* 1.60m Friends of the Meadows Cup at Spruce Meadows in 2017, and third in the CSIO5*  Longines King George V Gold Cup at Hickstead in 2016 – as well as picking up top five placings at Bolesworth, Estoril, Redefin, Rome, Samorin, Spruce Meadows and Wellington. In 2016, Super Sox won the CSI3* Grand Prix at the Horse of the Year Show in Birmingham – with Cian O'Connor in the saddle. Super Sox also represented USA in Nations Cups in Barcelona and at Spruce Meadows. In 2014, prior to being sold to Keenan, he jumped to team silver at the European Championships for young riders with Norway's Benedicte Serigstad Endresen as well as finishing fourth individually.

At World of Showjumping, we wish Super Sox a happy retirement!
