Former world no. one Simon Delestre has announced the retirement of the 17-year-old gelding Chesall Zimequest (Casall x Concerto II), that the French rider for years enjoyed great success with.

Together, the two recorded numerous big wins, in Basel, Brussels, Knokke, Madrid, Megeve, Monte Carlo, Paris, Rome, Shanghai, St. Tropez, Verona, Valence and Wiesbaden – to mention some.

On his official Facebook account, Delestre paid tribute to Chesall and wrote [unofficial translation from French]:

“Time to wish you a happy retirement! Have a great gallop in the field!

Our darling Chesall won’t be returning to competition. What a career and what results! You will have made a lasting impression with your countless victories, and your breathtaking jump-offs! You were honoured with the title 'Best Horse in the World' in 2016, which reflected your consistency and performances among the top stars. It was also through your talent that I accessed the supreme grail; becoming no. one in the world in 2016.

You travelled across the planet alongside me to participate in the most prestigious competitions, from Shanghai to Miami, through Rome, Paris, Los Angeles and Brussels – you entered your name in the most beautiful Grand Prix classes.

A special mention to Benoît Zimmermann for trusting me and believing in Chesall.

We already miss your endearing personality, your tenderness.

Thank you for everything we did together!

What an era...

Have a nice retirement Chesall.”

At World of Showjumping, we wish Chesall a happy retirement!
