Belgium’s Dominique Hendrickx and Koriano Van Klapscheut (Lord Z x Darco) won Friday’s CSI4* 1.50m Tío Pepe Trophy at the Andalucia Sunshine Tour in Vejer de la Frontera, Spain.
Leopoldo Palacios was the course builder for this Grand Prix qualifier in the David Broome arena, and it was a large field of 92 horse-and-rider combinations that gave the track a go. In the end, 20 pairs qualified for the jump-off where Hendrickx was the fastest with his time of 38.19 seconds. Susan Fitzpatrick (IRL) and Verdict de Kezeg (Diamant de Semilly x Vas y Donc Longane) took the runner-up position, almost a second behind the winning time, while Therese Henriksen (NOR) rode Cyclone L’Epivent’ (Ulixe x Arpege Pierreville) to a third place in a time of 40.55 seconds. Kim Emmen (NED) finished fourth with Delvaux (Chacco-Blue x Lancer II), and Tim Wilks (CAN) fifth with Diamanthella VG Z (Diamant de Semilly x Hickory Mail).
In the Medium Tour 1.45m class, also counting for the world ranking, Michael Pender (IRL) and HHS Fortune (Catoki x Douglas) took the top honours after finishing the second phase in 24.54 seconds. Ellen Whitaker (GBR) crossed the finish line in 25.19 seconds with Fiona des Hayettes (Lord des Hayettes x Ryon d'Anzex), while Yuri Mansur (BRA) took the third place with Away Semilly (Diamant de Semilly x Watzmann) with a time of 26.02 seconds.
