The Belgian national anthem played for Jerome Guery at the Sunshine Tour yesterday, as the in-form rider won Thursday’s 1.45/1.50 class on Ginnis van’t Geyzeven (Cicero Z x Heureka de la Loge). Guery and the 10-year-old mare's time of 63.19 seconds was unbeatable in this class sponsored by la Junta de Andalucía. Closest to Guery came British rider Guy Williams on the 17-year-old veteran Golddigger (Calvados x Glennridge), who delivered an electric round finishing in 64.61 seconds. Laura Robinson and Jonti (Lando x Coriolan) were three seconds slower, but still took care of the third place – also they representing Great Britain.
There were 70 competitors in this class and the top 20 riders will be put forward for the Grand Prix on Sunday, that counts towards the FEI Longines Rankings with prize money of 40,000 Euros.
The overall prize money this weekend is almost 150,00 Euro and there are four classes that count for the FEI Longines Rankings. The first will be held tomorrow in the main arena.
