The 2022-edition of Commercial Bank CHI Al Shaqab presented by Longines continued in Doha, Qatar, on Friday and it was Brazil's Marlon Modolo Zanotelli that took home the win in the CSI5* 1.60m class with a jump-off.

A total of ten horse-and-rider combinations out of the field of 40 cleared the first-round track and joined the deciding jump-off. Riding Like A Diamond van het Schaeck (Diamant de Semilly x Bamako de Muze), Modolo Zanotelli stopped the clock on 41.43 seconds in the jump-off, leaving Martin Fuchs (SUI) on Conner Jei (Connor 48 x Cosimo) to the runner-up position with a time of 41.92. Malin Baryard-Johnsson (SWE) on H&M Indiana (Kashmir van Schuttershof x Animo's Hallo) placed third with a time of 42.98 seconds, while the fourth place went to Ludger Beerbaum (GER) on Cool Feeling (Cornado NRW x Lancer II) and fifth to Geir Gulliksen (NOR) on Grandino H (Calvino Z x Numero Uno).

"I think Uliano Vezzani did a great job today," Modolo Zanotelli commented to World of Showjumping about the course building. "I think it was a very good class, and an exciting jump-off for the public.”

“I am just so impressed with my mare – she jumped amazing today,” Modolo Zanotelli said. “I am very thankful to the Gjelsten-family, who makes it possible for me to keep her."

The second CSI5* class of the day, a 1.45m Speed &Handiness, went to Hans-Dieter Dreher (GER) on Vestmalle Des Cotis (Baloubet du Rouet x Landor S). Jur Vrieling (NED) Fernando-H (Calvino Z x No Limit) took the runner-up spot, while Bart Bles (NED) on Gin D (Clinton x Skippy II) placed third, John Whitaker (GBR) on Sharid (Toulon x Vancoulers) fourth and Jeanne Sadran (FRA) on Come On Jumper (Comme Il Faut x Christiano) fifth.
