Victor Bettendorf (LUX) and the 9-year-old Foxy de La Roque (Armitages Boy x Kannan) won Friday's CSI4* 1.50m Prix Defender – a Grand Prix qualifier as well as a class counting for the Longines Ranking Group C – at the 2024-edition of the Longines Deauville Classic in Deauville, France.
Stopping the clock on 62.93 seconds, Bettendorf and Foxy de La Roque took the win ahead of Marc Dilasser (FRA) and Arioto du Gevres (Diamant de Semilly x Qualisico III) in second in 63.44, followed by Kara Chad (CAN) and Igor GPH (Harley x Crawford) in third in 63.92. Mariano Martinez Bastida (ESP) and Belano vd Wijnhoeve Z (Berlin x Darco) finished fourth with a time of 65.12, while Alexandra Francart (FRA) and Betty du Prieure (Doremi x Chellano Z) completed the top five after stopping the clock on 65.26 seconds.
On Thursday, Ireland's Darragh Kenny and the 12-year-old Eddy Blue (Eldorado vd Zeshoek x Chacco-Blue) won the first Grand Prix qualfier of the weekend when the two topped the CSI4* 1.50m Prix Hermès Sellier – a class counting for the Longines Ranking Group D. With a time of 64.07, the Irish rider took the win ahead of Kevin Staut (FRA) and Dialou Blue PS (Tailormade Diarado's Boy x Chacco-Blue) in second in 64.77, followed by Pedro Veniss (BRA) and Nimrod de Muze Imperio Egipcio (Nabab de Reve x Tinka's Boy) in third in 66.08, Nicolas Layec (FRA) and Best of Iscla (Diamant de Semilly x Kannan) in fourth in 66.69 and Edward Levy (FRA) aboard Lyon van de Plataan (Kashmir van Schuttershof x Heartbreaker) in fifth in 66.74.
