After a hotly contested jump-off, it was ultimately Belgian rider Wouter Devos that played the game the best in the CSI4* Grand Prix Longines in Crans-Montana. Riding Tonik Hero (Ogano Sitte x Elegant de l'Ile), Devos left Nicolas Deseuzes (FRA) on Quilane de Lezeaux (Grenat de Grez x Page de Paulstra) and Niklaus Rutschi (SUI) on Carassina (Colman x Candillo) behind him – these three riders delivering the only double clears of the class.
Aboard his "best friend" Tonik Hero, the Belgian rider took all the risks, clutching his turns at the maximum, and ended his jump-off round with a great run to the last: Fast, accurate and effective to stop the clock at 36.93 seconds.
"I'm so happy!” Devos said. “For three weeks I knew I was invited here to Jumping Longines Crans-Montana, and I prepared specifically for performance in this Grand Prix Longines. With Tonik Hero, it's even more special because I have been riding him since he was 5 years old. This is just my best friend. I also said to myself this morning that if I wanted to win a four-star Grand Prix with him one day, it was a little now or never! After victories in two- and three-star Grand Prix classes, it's a wonderful feeling to win the Grand Prix Longines today. I loved up here, it's a wonderful place,” Devos concluded.
