Edited press release from Longines Global Champions Tour
The Longines Global Champions Tour has officially arrived in Mexico City (MEX) for the third leg of the 2024-season and day one kicked off in spectacular style with Simon Delestre (FRA) and Olga van de Kruishoeve (El Torreo de Muze x Nabab de Reve) winning the CSI5* 1.45m Trofeo Broxel two-phase by over two seconds.
Speaking to GCTV, Simon smiled: "The crowd here in Mexico City are always fantastic and this is just the first day! The grass arena felt amazing and Olga loves it here, I was unlucky in Miami last week so hopefully my luck has changed and I can carry on this strong start for the rest of the weekend."
Top sport was on display with the first of the twelve clear rounds coming from Gilles Thomas (BEL) aboard Elfra van Beek Z (El Salvador x Vagabond de La Pomme), proving that the Peter Grant built a challenging yet jumpable course. Not to be outdone, Andreas Schou (DEN) aboard Billy Matador (Billy Mexico x Animo) took the lead in quick succession – finishing fifth in the end, behind Denis Lynch (IRL) with Cordial (Casall x Chicago Z) in second, Richard Vogel (GER) aboard Cydello (Cascadelllo x Forsyth FRH) in third and Lorenzo de Luca (ITA) on Denver de Talma (Vigo Cece x Canturo Bois Margot) in fourth.
