France’s Simon Delestre, who currently leads the Longines Global Champions Tour’s overall ranking, will be sidelined for several weeks after a fall during the LGCT Grand Prix in Cannes last weekend.

On his official Instagram account, Delestre shared an update on his condition on Wednesday, writing: “On Saturday evening, during the Cannes Grand Prix, I had a bad fall with Gatsby. Fortunately, my horse is fine and wasn't injured. As for me, things are a bit more complicated. I was taken to the hospital and I'm suffering from a dislocated clavicle and ligaments, as well as hematomas on my temple and the back of my head.

I had to have surgery, which took place on Monday and went well. The procedure stabilized my shoulder and confirmed that there were no other injuries to my clavicle. Nevertheless, my recovery will require complete immobilization of my left arm for several weeks.

I would like to thank all the people who have given and continue to give me their support; your messages and calls are helping me through this brutal and unexpected time. These are scenarios that can unfortunately be part of a rider's life, but feeling surrounded and supported will help me cope during these long weeks without riding my horses.”

At World of Showjumping, we wish Simon a full recovery.
