Two fast riders finished on top at CSIO5* Gijon on Friday; first Abdullah Al Sharbatly won the 1.50 two-phase class and then Julien Epaillard took the victory in the 1.45 speed class. For both riders this was their second wins of the week at the Spanish event.
Al Sharbatly took the win in the Casino de Asturias Prize counting for the Longines Ranking. This time the Saudi rider was aboard the 13-year-old gelding Domingo (Thunder van de Zuuthoeve x Brownboy), leaving the well riding Dutch-man Doron Kuipers behind him as runner-up on Baileys (Vincenzo x Burggraaf) a little less than a second slower on the clock. Third was Italy’s Simone Coata on Cannavaro (Caspar x Continue).
The Central Lechera Asturiana Prize went to French speed machine Julien Epaillard on Sheriff de la Nutria LM (Diamant de Semilly SF x Papillon Rouge), who rode an incredible fast round to beat Abdullah Al Sharbatly by over a second. In third came another fast rider; Germany’s Katharina Offel on Sakann (Kannan x Nidor Platiere).
