USA's Brian Moggre and the 15-year-old stallion Balou du Reventon (Cornet Obolensky x Continue) won Friday's CSIO5* 1.60m Longines Grand Prix in Sopot, Poland. It was a good day for the Americans with Lucy Deslauriers and the 15-year-old gelding Hester (Wandor van de Mispelaere x Palestro vd Begijnakker) following in second place.
Thirteen of the fifty horse-and-rider combinations in the Grand Prix moved on to round two of the competition, where seven managed to stay on a clean sheet. The 19-year-old Moggre set the time to beat at 48.09 seconds, after a beautiful and efficient round which no one could match. Close behind followed 21-year-old Deslauriers, in 48.16 seconds. Both Moggre and Deslauriers have been named to the US short list for the Olympic Games, and Sopot is one of their designated CSIO observation events.
Belgium's Niels Bruynseels and Ilusionata van't Meulenhof (Lord Z x Carthago) ended third, after crossing the finish line in 48.63 seconds, while fourth place went to Germany's Andre Thieme and DSP Chakaria (Chap 47 x Askari 173) and fifth to Dutch rider Leon Thijssen on Faithless MVDL (Ukato x Clinton).
