The Irish riders showed winning form on the opening day of Dublin Horse Show, with Shane Breen and Greg Broderick taking the top honours in the CSIO5* Sport Ireland Classic and the CSIO5* Speed Stakes.

Riding the 9-year-old stallion Ipswich van de Wolfsakker (Carembar De Muze x Quick Star), Breen won the 1.50m/1.60m Sport Ireland Classic – beating a field that counted a total of 69 riders. Stopping the clock at 41.83 seconds in round two, Breen was the fastest of the six pairs that managed to produce double clears and actually also produced another round with an even faster time aboard Golden Hawk (Vigo d'Arsouilles x Chin Chin) – however, the latter came with a score of four faults putting Breen in 7th place with his other ride.

The hosts filled the podium in the Sport Ireland Classic, with Bertram Allen finishing in runner-up position on Izzy by Picobello (Cicero Z x Capriano) in a time of 41.92 seconds in round two. Third was Anthony Condon on Balzac (Oklund x Frisbee Kerellec), stopping the clock at 42.13 seconds.

Breaking the Irish domination were Olivier Robert (FRA) in fourth and Bruno Chimirri (ITA) in fifth.

Earlier in the day, Greg Broderick and the 13-year-old stallion Zuidam (Guidam x Indoctro) secured the victory in the 1.35m/1.45m Speed Stakes. Lillie Keenan (USA) finished in second on Be Gentle (Ticallux Verte x Gentleman), almost a second behind Broderick's winning time. Third place went to another Irish rider; Darragh Kenny on Chakito (Chacco Blue x Padarco).
