Edited press release from CSIO Roma Piazza di Siena 2021
Ireland’s performance was disappointing in Friday's Nations Cup as they were left out of the second round, but today an Irish rider hit back in the first competition of the 88th CSIO in Rome with Mark Mcauley taking the top honours in the CSIO5* 1.50m KEP Italia Prize.
The 34-year-old rider from Dublin hit the mark with Cap West (Chacco Blue x Hors La Loi II), scoring 65 points and finishing the course with an excellent 45.26. This is the third career success for Mcauley at Piazza di Siena, following the one in 2017 in the puissance and the other in 2019 in an around the clock category. The hosts completed the podium: Emilio Bicocchi and Flinton (Clinton x Heartbreaker) finished in runner-up position, in 45.44 seconds, while third place went to Paolo Paini and Chaccolie(Chacco-Blue x Cellestial) in 45.48 seconds.
