On home soil in Mannheim, Germany's Richard Vogel and Cydello (Cascadello x Forsyth FRH) won Tuesday's CSIO3* 1.60m Badenia Grand Prix of MVV as the 60th edition of the Mannheimer Maimarkt-Turnier came to an end.
Ten out of the 46 horse-and-rider combinations at start cleared the first-round track set by the German course designer Christa Jung. In the jump-off, it was Vogel and Cydello that clocked the fastest time – 41.74 – and took the win ahead of their compatriot Christian Kukuk (GER) and Nice van'T Zorgvliet (Emerald x Heartbreaker) in second in 42.49.
Wilma Hellström (SWE) and Cicci BJN (Ci Ci Senjor Ask x Tornesch 1042) placed third with a time of 45.06 seconds, while Ulrich Hensel (GER) and Europa H (Escudo 19 x Alexis Z) finished fourth in 52.50. Hans-Dieter Dreher (GER) and Cous Cous (Cachas x Lasino) completed the top five with four faults in the jump-off and a time of 43.66.
With his Grand Prix win, Vogel – who also won Saturday's CSIO3* 1.45m Championat of Mannheim with Churchill (Cassito x Colman) – did a double that only four other riders have managed to do: Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum won both the Championat as well as the Grand Prix in 1993, while Franke Sloothaak did the same in 1996, Ludger Beerbaum in 2001 and Simone Blum in 2019.
