Kevin Staut (FRA) and the 12-year-old New Libero One d’Asschaut (Van Gogh x For Pleasure) won Sunday’s CSI5* 1.60m Grand Prix, the President’s Cup UAE Showjumping presented by Longines, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
Five pairs from the 30 horse-and-rider combinations at start the competition counting for the Longines Rankings group A cleared the first-round track set by Alan Wade (IRL) and joined the jump-off, where the French duo stopped the clock on 34.79, taking the win ahead of Cian O’Connor (IRL) and Iron Man (Charisma Z x Mr Blue) in second in 36.07.
Staut’s compatriot Roger Yves Bost and Embassy du Chateau (Jarnac x Bolero de Brecey) completed the podium in third in 36.91, followed by Georgia Tame (GBR) on Be Golden Lynx (Golden Hawk x Lux Z) in fourth in 40.26 and William Funnell (GBR) aboard Equine America Billy Picador (Billy Mexico x Animo) in fifth with four penalties in 38.15.
The second CSI5* class of the day, a 1.50m winning round presented by ADEC – counting for the Longines Rankings group B – went to Khaled Almobty (KSA) and Davenport VDL (Diamant de Semilly x Indoctro) ahead of Cian O’Connor (IRL) and Gengis Kann de Londe (Kannan x Diamant de Semilly) in second and Abdelkebir Ouaddar (MAR) aboard Baccarat Meniljean (Diamant de Semilly x Dollar du Murier) in third.
