Eiken Sato (JPN) has withdrawn from the final day of competition at the Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ Final in Fort Worth, Texas.
With a total score of seven points, Sato was sitting fourth on the overall standings ahead of Sunday’s two rounds of jumping where he was supposed to ride the 15-year-old gelding Chadellano JRA (Chacco-Blue x Centadel).
"Unfortunately, after passing the second horse inspection last night, Chadellano seemed unwell," Eiken commented to World of Showjumping. "As he was showing mild signs of colic, and we wanted to be absolutely sure he is fine, he was sent to the clinic for further evaluation. We were in a good position ahead of Sunday's final, so it is sad that we are not able to continue our competition, but his health comes first. At the moment, he looks ok."
While the first round on Sunday is open for the best 30 horse-and-rider combinations on the overall Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ Final standings, 28 pairs will come to start as Hungary’s Peter Szuhai with Corbluecenta (Balou du Reventon x Chacco-Blue) – ranked 29th overall with 27 penalties - also has opted to not continue.
