After four gold medals and one bronze medal from the Olympic Games, two gold, one silver and one bronze from the World Championships, as well as six gold, three silver and two bronze from the European Championships – Ludger Beerbaum puts a close to his championship career.

The Olympic Games in Rio is the last championship appearance for Beerbaum, who won the team bronze for Germany yesterday, and the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup Final in Barcelona will be Ludger’s final German team appearance.

“I will continue to ride international show,” says Beerbaum in an announcement on his website. “In the future I have some interesting projects, I will keep myself busy with managing my show stable and education of young horses as well as trading.” The 52-year-old German rider also wants to continue his efforts to develop the sport in the Asian countries on top of his many other projects.

“It will not be boring for me, and I am very thankful that I could ride for my country for so many years – but now younger colleagues should take over,” Beerbaum states.
