The foal auction sale is a well-established event on the schedule of the Holsteiner Horse Days. And this year is no different. On 14 June, clients are given another opportunity to secure a high-quality produce from the land between the seas’ breeding programme. And of course, bidding on the telephone is again a viable option for all those unable to attend the Elmshorn auction sale in person.

It offers an interesting and well-received platform, where numerous talents have found new owners who have promoted and produced them according to their exceptional quality over the years. Like for example the Holsteiner foal auction sales’ current poster boy, Catch by Colman, discovered and purchased at Elmshorn by South African clients and sent to Lower Saxony to be produced as a stallion. Stallion graded at Neumünster two years ago, where he became second reserve champion stallion, the grey has come up to the Holsteiner Verband stallion keeping’s expectations: Catch was awarded top marks at the Münster-Handorf stallion sport performance testing under Maximilian Gräfe, earning him a final score of 9.73.

This year’s selection comprises many highly interesting foals, as well, like for example a young daughter by Quibery, the reigning Holsteiner State Champion. Moreover, the modern filly from mare family 318D2 was bred by Peter Diedrichsen (Föhr) and her second dam is no other One Star by Caretino, who has made a name for herself for her produce, including Gerco Schröders Glock’s Cognac Champblanc and Laurient Perrier, top-selling lot of the elite riding horse auction sale in 2016. International sport horses like Camiro (Tony Andre Hansen) and Chilli Willi (Nicola Philippaerts) have come from the same direct dam line.

Glock’s Cognac Champblanc This year’s selection comprises many highly interesting foals, as well, like for example a young daughter by Quibery, the reigning Holsteiner State Champion. The modern filly from mare family 318D2 was bred by Peter Diedrichsen (Föhr) and her second dam is no other than One Star by Caretino, who has made a name for herself for her produce, including Gerco Schröders Glock’s Cognac Champblanc .

26 selected colt and filly foals are expected to step into the auction ring. Prospective buyers may not only expect offspring by proven sport stallions, but also foals by young sires have proved convincing to the discriminating selection panel. “We have selected thrilling foals out of high-quality dams“, Hans-Joachim Ahsbahs said upon concluding the selection, “and I have got the feeling that today’s breeders are much more up to the actual demands of the market”.

5-year-old Plot Blue son Million Dollar, currently one of the most in-demand stallions of the Holsteiner Verband stallion keeping GmbH, has the most offspring at Elmshorn. The above mentioned Catch has one offspring in the auction, same as his sire Colman. Other young stallions represented by promising offspring are Barcley (by Baloubet du Rouet) and Kingsroad (by Kannan). Of course Caretino son Casall and his son Cascadello I are also represented in the auction, as their foals easily convinced the selection panel same as those by Limbus son Livello, responsible for maintaining the L line in  Holstein. These stallions are represented by two offspring, each. Young colts and fillies by high-profile sires like Balou du Rouet, Cash and carry, Comme il faut, Cornet Obolensky, For Pleasure, Stakkato, Vagabond de la Pomme and Van Gogh provide prospective buyers with a wide choice for securing a top Holsteiner for breeding and/or sport.

With a string of exciting events and activities - the elite mare show as well as the State Young Horse Dressage and Show Jumping Championships - scheduled around the Holsteiner foal auction sale, the Elmshorn Holsteiner Horse Days on 13 and 14 June cater to every horse enthusiast as the event, unlike almost any other, combines breed related events, sport, and marketing. The entire Holsteiner Verband team is looking forward to your visit!
