Emerald van ’t Ruytershof

Emerald van ’t Ruytershof. This chestnut stallion needs no introduction with his golden mane, four white socks, the white spot under his belly but above all his scope, carefulness, balance, confirmation, intelligence and outstanding personality make him the star he is today.

As a six year old Emerald van ’t Ruytershof was reserve champion at the World Championships for young horses, five years later he was part of the Dutch National team, and in 2016 he was 2nd in the World Cup Final in Gothenburg and finalist at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janiero. Emerald has many international Grand Prix victories with his rider Harrie Smolders, such as the Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of Chantilly in 2017 and the CSI5-W* Grand Prix of Bordeaux in 2018.

“Looking at his offspring in general, I think Emerald passes on most of his own best qualities," Harrie Smolders says. "The first is the use of his hind legs, all his offspring have a very good technique behind. Secondly, he breeds horses with a really good brain, they are easy to teach, they want to improve, they are pleasant to work with and in the ring they are all very cool minded. Just like Emerald, his offspring also have a good heart – they give a lot to their rider in the ring.”
