Sunday’s CSI3* 1.50m Grand Prix track at the Sunshine Tour was brilliantly designed by the Italian course designer Uliano Vezzani. The very last combination to go in the nine-horse jump-off was Jérôme Guery (BEL) riding Quel Homme de Hus (Quidam de Revel x Candillo). Guery’s incredibly fast and stylish round won him the Grand Prix, just in front of Pénélope Leprevost who was second last to go on Vancouver de Lanlore (Toulon X Le Tot de Semilly).

Despite the fact that Pénélope’s round looked unbeatable and was a lesson in speed riding, the Belgian rider handled the pressure. “I thought my stallion was slower, but it turned out not to be so – he was very fast and we managed to beat Pénélope!” Guery said.

Of the nine riders that passed through to the jump-off, Sara Salom (ESP) and Clear Concert (Clearway x Lord) flew around the course and gave the enthusiastic audience the first double clear – eventually good enough for the 5th place. Once again Omer Karaevli (TUR) shone, delivering the second clear jump-off with Cheston de la Pomme d’Or Z (Chippendale Z x Contendro II) to finish 4th.  Next to jump on to the podium was another Belgian rider, Dominique Hendrickx (BEL), who took over the lead on Kannabis Van de Bucxtale (Contact van de Heffinck x Concorde) – looking unbeatable until Leprevost came in to push him down to second and then to third by Guery.
