Press release from Spruce Meadows

Two 1.45m competitions were run on Thursday to accommodate all of the horses and riders looking to compete in the Friends of the Meadows Cup. The first competition brought fifty-six competitors into the ring to test their skills on the track designed by FEI Course Designer Quintin Maertens (NED). The two-phase Power and Speed competition required competitors to jump the first phase of the course clear before proceeding immediately to the second phase, where the fastest clear ride would be the winner. Luiz Francisco de Azevedo (BRA) and HBR Dance (Thunder vd Zuuthoeve x Lumpaci) claimed his second win of the 2019 Spruce Meadows Summer Series.

The second 1.45m Friends of the Meadows Cup brought fifty-two competitors to the North American Ring. Maertens tested this group in a two-phase competition where twenty-nine jumped clean through phase one. The wet weather proved to be no obstacle for Daniel Coyle of Ireland on Leilani (breeding unknown). A clear round and time of 24.64s in phase two was untouchable and he would get his second win of the day.
