The experienced Irish rider Denis Lynch and Rubens LS La Silla (Rebozo LS la Silla x Cash) cornered their three rivals in the jump-off in Saturday's CSI5* 1.60m Longines Trophy in La Coruña. It was a demanding course that waited for the horses and riders in the Casas Novas arena, and eventually only four pairs qualified for the jump-off: Great Britain's Guy Williams and Robert Whitaker, the Dutchman Marc Houtzager and Lynch himself, who pocketed 75,900 euros with this win.

The first to enter the arena was Williams, who did not have a lucky performance with Rouge de Ravel (Ultimo van Ter Moude x Quouglof Rouge) – finishing on 16 faults. Lynch wanted to succeed, which he did, challenging the next two with a devilish 40.33-second time. Then came the experienced Whitaker with Catwalk IV (Colman x Corleone), and Houtzager with Sterrehof’s Dante (Canturano x Phin Phin). Whitaker unfortunately knocked one fence down, as was the case for Houtzager who flew around to the fastest time of the jump-off but on the expense of a rail —nevertheless good enough for the runner-up position.

“I was lucky because my horse is not the fastest, but he has a lot of experience. He was calm, he turned very well and I am very happy," Lynch said after his victory adding that the 13-year-old gelding already has been "very successful in America" with his former rider Conor Swail.
