The 2020 Commercial Bank CHI Al Shaqab presented by Longines continued in Doha, Qatar, on Friday. The highlight of the day, a CSI5* 1.55m class with a jump-off, offered the audience some real excitement. Nine pairs out of the 40 horse-and-rider combinations in the class, cleared the first-round track and joined the deciding jump-off over a shortened course.

Julien Epaillard (FRA) and Virtuose Champeix (Rubins des Bruyeres x Avec Espoir) continued their winning streak, taking home the victory yet again with a time of 33.41 seconds. Max Kühner (AUT) on Elektric Blue P (Eldorado v.d. Zeshoek x For Pleasure) got close though – stopping the clocks on 33.81 which was good enough for second place. Scott Brash (GBR) on Hello Shelby (Stolzenberg x For Pleasure) placed third with a time of 34.11, while Eduardo Alvarez Aznar (ESP) on Seringat (Chef Rouge x Guillaume Tell) and Henrik von Eckermann (SWE) on Best Boy 2 (Contagio x Sunrise) had to tie for fourth as both clocked a time of 34.84 seconds.

Epaillard was full of praise for his horse after another great performance. "He wins two days in a row, to be better is impossible. It was not my best jump-off tonight, I was not sure I had won when I passed the finish line. My horse is naturally fast, that is why I won tonight – because of my horse, not because of my riding."

Speaking about the facilities at Al Shaqab, Epaillard said: "I love it here. The venue is fantastic, we have space enough for the horses and we can canter on the race track – I really like it here."

Earlier during the day, Jane Richard Philips (SUI) on Kenia van'T Laerhof (Fantomas de Muze x Kashmir van Schuttershof) raced to the win in the CSI5* 1.50m table A. Roger Yves Bost (FRA) on Castleforbes Talitha (Cardenio x Baloubet de Rouet) took the runner-up position, while Filippo Marco Bologni (ITA) on Diplomat (Kashmir van Schuttershof x Darco) placed third. Henrik von Eckermann (SWE) on Fancy Me (Forsyth FRH x Gimpel) took the fourth spot and fifth went to Kevin Staut (FRA) on Visconti du Telman (Toulon x Dollar du Murier).
