Dutch rider Willem Greve had an unfortunate fall during C.H. de Wolden yesterday, breaking both his ankle as well as his upper arm. Greve, who had been selected for the World Championship with Grandorado TN (Eldorado vd Zeshoek x Carolus II), is now forced to take a break and will miss out on competing in Herning, Denmark.

Greve and Grandorado TN have had a fantastic season, and Dutch coach Jos Lansink is of course disappointed to lose one of his most consistent horse-and-rider combinations: “I've already had Willem on the phone a few times today and this is of course not easy for him," Lansink stated to the Dutch Equestrian Federation yesterday. "We made a good plan together from February; it all worked out very well and now it is suddenly disrupted in such a way. What a disappointment. First of all for Willem, but also for the Nijhof-family – the co-owners of Grandorado. They also did everything they could to ensure that their stallion could be in optimal shape for the World Championship.”

Lansink confirms that Jur Vrieling and Long John Silver (Lasino x San Patrignano Corrado) will replace Greve and Grandorado TN, and that Hessel Hoekstra will move up to become traveling reserve with Icon VDL (Bubalu VDL x Cardento).

At World of Showjumping, we wish Willem a speedy recovery!
