Pieter Devos has announced the retirement of his 17-year-old gelding Apart (Larino x Burggraaf). With Devos in the saddle, Apart won the CSI5* Grand Prix of Bordeaux in 2017, the CSI5* Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ of Stuttgart in both 2018 and 2019, and was on the victorious Belgian team in the CSIO5* Longines FEI Jumping Nations Cup™ of Poland in 2019. During their time together, the pair also recorded other five-star victories at venues such as Bordeaux, Cannes, Mexico City and Paris, and has podium finishes in the CSI5* Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ of Basel, the CSI5* Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ of Verona and the CSI5* Grand Prix of Mechelen as well as the Masters of Mechelen to look back at. Apart was produced by Pieter's wife Caroline Devos-Poels, who also had lots of success with the gelding – competing him all the way up to 1.60m Grand Prix level.

On his website, Devos commented: “Apart has been a horse fundamental to my career and a true sporting partner and teammate in every sense of the word. He always showed such bravery and intelligence in the ring - I trusted him implicitly and I’d like to feel he trusted me too. Together we have made some unforgettable memories and I could not be more proud of everything he has achieved in his career. A huge part of his success was due to his early training with my wife Caroline, and the trust placed in us by Stal Hendrix when he came into our stable - he truly has been a horse of our family, and one who will always be special to all of us. I owe him the biggest of thanks, and so to retire him happy and healthy is the biggest gift I can give him, and the very least I can do. He has already had a year with his field friend Espoir, and so to live out their days together is a fitting final chapter for these two superstars.”

At World of Showjumping, we wish Apart a happy retirement!
