Close-Up

In this WoSJ Close-Up the lens is on one of the biggest, yet smallest, stars on the circuit: Hermès Ryan (Hugo Gesmeray x Ryon d'Anzex). Formerly known as Ryan des Hayettes, this tiny chestnut gelding has had tremendous success under France's Simon Delestre who has produced the horse from youngster level and all the way up to top of the sport. The 11-year-old gelding had a fantastic 2015: With Delestre in the saddle, he jumped to an individual bronze medal at the European Championships in Aachen in August. The two also ended second in the Rolex IJRC Top 10 Final in Geneva in December as well as being runners-up in the Grand Prix at the Longines Masters of Paris. Hermès Ryan also won the Longines FEI World Cup in Verona in November, ended third in the Rolex Grand Prix in Aachen back in May not to forget that he won the Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix in Antwerp at the beginning of the outdoor season.
