The year in review 2016

World of Showjumping looks back at 2016, collecting some of the most magical moments of the year that soon comes to a close. First out is this amazing shot of Steve Guerdat just after winning the Longines FEI World Cup Final in Gothenburg with Corbinian, alongside his groom Emma Uusi-Simola. Just pure emotions, and that is what we love. All photos (c) Jenny Abrahamsson.

The German maestro Marcus Ehning is always very collected, so a thumbs-up and a big smile from him always feels special.

When you are 61-years-old, have been on top for decades and still smile like this after a double clear round in the Nations Cup in Rome! John is still one of our biggest heroes, and has been so since we were kids.

One of the most beautiful photos from 2016 is this one: Judy-Ann Melchior loves her As Cold As Ice Z, and thanked her special partner in this way after an amazing weekend in Aachen this year.

Magic: A quiet moment between Roger Yves Bost and Qoud'Coeur de Loge after a double clear round in the Nations Cup of Aachen.

Even though she was disappointed in this moment, it is still magical: Tiffany Foster's expression represent the beauty of this sport, and how quickly it can turn around by what is not even a mistake. With Tripple X III, Foster had an amazing Olympic Games and here she has had the very last fence down on the difficult final line during the first round of the individual final in Rio.

When it comes to ups and downs, our sport is sometimes extreme. No one knows that better than Nick Skelton. This is why this photo for us sums up everything this special couple went through to get to this exact moment in time. The picture shows Skelton taking a minute with Big Star before he goes to the podium to be crowned Olympic Champion in Rio.

Ha! He made it! Rolf-Göran Bengtsson's expression is prize-less as he wins the Longines Global Champions Tour-title for 2016 and the Grand Prix of Doha on the very same night.

Pure joy! Eric Lamaze and Fine Lady 5 had such an amazing year, and it all started in Geneva twelve months before this photo was taken. That the pair won the Rolex IJRC Top 10 Final felt just right, as they have been one of the most impressive pairs of the season.

There is something about this picture that describes just how much a horse can mean to humans. Nino des Buissonnets is thanked off in Geneva after a fantastic career under Steve Guerdat, which included individual gold at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Of course, with his trademark-tongue.
