Saturday's main class at the CSI5*-W event in Leipzig, Germany, was the Championat of Leipzig worth 61,790 Euro. The 1.50m class had a total of 50 horse-and-rider combinations lining up for the challenge set by course designers Frank Rothenberger and Christian Wiegand. The course proved tricky enough, with only eight pairs clearing their way into the jump-off.
In the end it was Christian Ahlmann (GER) on the 13-year-old mare Ailina (Chico's Boy x Cowondo Z) that walked off as the winner, after the pair clocked a time of 34,19 seconds. "It was a little bit unexpected, that it all worked so well today," Ahlmann said afterwards. "Because this is my first show with Ailina and the course was technical enough. I am very happy with her today, I took a lot of risk in the jump-off."
Mario Stevens (GER) on the 17-year-old stallion Credo (Caretino x Silvester) took the runner-up position with a time of 35,75 seconds, while Denis Lynch (IRL) on the 12-year-old gelding Alcazar Sitte (Rexar du Houssoit x Nabab de Reve) took the third spot with a time of 35,96. With a pole falling in the jump-off in a time of 34,72 seconds, Marcus Ehning (GER) on the 12-year-old mare Cristy (Canturo x Landlord) had to settle for the fourth spot. Placing fifth in the end, Gerrit Nieberg (GER) on the 14-year-old stallion Contagio (Colman x Lordanos) also saw a pole fall in the jump-off in a time of 37,30.
The Stern Auto Center Leipzig Price, a 1.45m speed and handiness competition, went to Felix Hassmann (GER). Riding the 13-year-old gelding SL Brazonado (SI Baluarte x Silvestre), the German rider clocked the winning time of 55,19 seconds. Alberto Zorzi (ITA) on the 13-year-old Florette van het Lambroeck (For Pleasure x Baloubet du Rouet) took the runner-up position with a time of 55,75 seconds, while Piergiorgio Bucci (ITA) on the 11-year-old gelding Heartbreaker vd Achterhoe (Bentley vd Heffinck x Catango Z) placed third in 55,90. Maurice Tebbel (GER) on the 11-year-old mare Camilla PJ (Calme x Picard) placed fourth with a time of 58,49 seconds, and Aldrick Cheronnet (FRA) on the 12-year-old stallion Atlantys By Wisbecq (Argentinus x Darco) took the fifth spot, after the pair clocked a time of 58,60.
