Great Britain's Scott Brash completed a perfect class in the Equita Masters presented by Hermès Sellier on Saturday evening at Equita Longines, le Salon du Cheval de Lyon.
Riding Hello Mr. President (Comme d'Api jr x breeding unknown), a nine-year-old Belgian horse, he finished the jump-off in a record time of 37'98, to take a last gasp win in front of the packed stands. The Irish rider Mark McAuley, who won the Grand Prix Longines in Lyon last year, almost made it two big wins in two years with his grey Miebello (Flyinge Quite Easy x Cardento): They recorded a double clear round in 39'56. They still managed to take second place, ahead of the Swiss rider Janika Sprunger on Ninyon (Nintender x Careful), who finished in 46'46. Olivier Robert on Vangog du Mas Garnier (Windows vh Costersveld x Quidam de Revel) achieved the best French performance. Having set the best time in the second round with 37'88, the couple finally took fifth place in the class, due to a penalty on the very last obstacle.
For Scott Brash, this win is full of promise. The former world number one on the Longines rankings demonstrated the great qualities of his horse Hello Mr President. "He is a great horse that has already won a few classes this year. I expect him to go far in the future. He jumped perfectly tonight, even better in the second round than in the first. I have several young horses at the moment that need to be involved in this kind of event to gain experience. This is the next generation, in which I have a lot of faith," he said shortly after winning the class.
