Sweden’s Petronella Andersson and the 11-year-old mare Odina van Klapscheut (Zazu x Landor S) won Monday’s CSI5*-W 1.55m Sport Vlaanderen Grand Prix at the 2025-edition of Jumping Mechelen in Belgium.
“A win always feels great, but especially here in Mechelen. Our stable is very close by and Jumping Mechelen really feels like coming home,” Andersson said in a press release from Jumping Mechelen. The whole team was here, which makes it even more special.”
“Odina is naturally very fast and I really use that to my advantage,” Andersson explained about her strategy for the jump-off between ten horse-and-rider combinations, where she clocked the winning time of 36.50. “I always make a plan and try to stick to it, without focusing too much on the other riders. I’m very grateful to ride Odina. She has a lot of character. We bought her as a seven-year-old, so we’ve known each other for four years now, and that really helps. I feel when she needs a bit of extra support, and I’m happy that she has my back as well. It’s a strong partnership.”
Great Britain’s Robert Murphy and Hulde G (Vigo d’Arsouilles x Warrant) took the runner-up spot with a time of 36.97, while Daniel Deusser (GER) and Pepita van’T Meulenhof BR (El Torreo de Muze x Carthago) completed the podium in third when the clock stopped on 37.00 for the German. Only the top three delivered a double clear, with Gilles Thomas (BEL) on Chuck Marienshof Z (Colestus x Emerald) and Thibeau Spits (BEL) aboard King van Essene (Calido I x Chacco-Blue) placing fourth and fifth respectively with four faults each.
