Germany's Tobias Meyer and the 14-year-old mare Cathleen (Cordobes I x Ramiro's Son I) won Friday night's CSI5*-W Longines Grand Prix of Lyon.
No less than fourteen of the 48 riders in the class produced clear rounds, and another seven jumped with only time faults over the 1.50-160m Grand Prix track. Against the clock, Meyer was the fastest of those six going clear again stopping the clock on 36.67 seconds to take the first prize of 25.000 Euro. Runner-up was Ireland's Darragh Kenny on Go Easy de Muze (Vigo d'Arsouilles x For Pleasure) with a time of 37.29 seconds in the jump-off. Another 0.26 seconds behind followed Meyer's compatriot Christian Ahlmann with Codex One (Contendro I x Glueckspilz).
Best of the home riders was Nicolas Deseuzes on Quilane de Lezeaux (Grenat de Grez x Page de Paulstra*HN) who finished fourth, while fifth place went to Dutch rider Gerco Schröder on Glock's Lausejunge (Ludwigs As x Cornet Obolensky).
Belgium's Gregory Wathelet had the fastest time in the jump-off stopping the clock on 36.07 seconds, but a pole fell for Eldorado van het Vijverhof (Thunder van de Zuuthoeve x Omar) and the pair had to settle for seventh.
