German championship rider Jana Wargers (34) is taking a break from international competition, as she is now out on maternity leave. “It’s an exciting time for me and my partner Michael Lürwer,” Wargers told WoSJ about her pregnancy, adding she is due to give birth in July.
Wargers, who at the end of May last year moved back to Germany after four years at Ashford Farm in Bocholt, Belgium, has continued her employment for the Belgian sport and trading stable since opening her own base in Nordwalde. She will now be handing over the reins on her top horse Dorette (Dollar du Murier x Fighting Alpha 3) to Ashford-colleague Marlon Zanotelli. “The horses that have been at my stable in Nordwalde have been spread out between my colleagues at Ashford Farm, and Marlon will be taking over Dorette while I’m out on maternity leave. Their first start will be in Doha, where I’ll also be present to help with a smooth transition,” Wargers – who on her last outing with Dorette, back in November, won the CSI5* LGCT Grand Prix in Riyadh – said.
“While my stable is currently empty and I will be taking a break from riding, I will still be available to do clinics and coaching while we are waiting for the baby to arrive in July,” Wargers said. “When I’m back from maternity leave, I will pick up where we left off and continue to ride for Ashford.”
