The organisers of Longines CHI Classics Basel have today announced the cancellation of their 2022-edition. The event, scheduled to run from January 13 to 16, was supposed to host one of the legs in the Longines FEI Jumping World Cup Western European League 2021/2022 season, which has already been reduced from its original thirteen legs to a current eight remaining as qualifiers, after Helsinki (FIN), Stuttgart (GER), Mechelen (BEL) and Amsterdam (NED) all have been cancelled prior to Basel (SUI). Currently left in the calendar for the 2021/2022-season, are the qualifiers in Bordeaux (FRA) and Gothenburg (SWE) in February. 

On their website, the organising committee announced that the cancellation has been made due to the current Covid-restrictions in the canton of Basel-Landschaft. “With enormous commitment we tried everything right up to the end,” the organisers wrote in a statement. “The best riders would have loved to come to Basel. Our sponsorship and hospitality offers were sold out and ticket sales were at record levels. Unfortunately, the development of the pandemic once again destroys our plans.”
