Germany’s Marcus Ehning has decided to withdraw from the last three days of competition at CHIO Aachen, after he ahead of Friday’s Mercedes-Benz Nations Cup had a fall with the 13-year-old stallion A La Carte NRW.
It was during the warm-up for the Nations Cup that A La Carte NRW and Ehning had a hard meeting with the ground, which forced the German rider out of the team. While both horse and rider escaped unharmed, a decision has been made to not continue jumping at CHIO Aachen.
A statement on Ehning’s official Instagram account reads: “Everything is good again with A La Carte NRW and Marcus after yesterday’s scary moment with the fall in the warm-up ring ahead of the Nations Cup. We thank the medical staff and all helpers that came to the rescue so quickly. Nevertheless, Marcus has decided to not jump any more at Aachen this year. The retirement ceremony for Pret A Tout will take place as planned tomorrow.”
