Former Dutch Chef d'Equipe Rob Ehrens will become the new coach for the Japanese showjumping team, replacing Wim Schröder and Paul Schockemöhle. "We have been working on this for a few months now," Ehrens tells World of Showjumping. "Together with the current Japanese Chef d'Equipe Mr. Yoshihiro Nakano, I will take over Wim Schröder and Paul Schockemöhle's tasks; the managing and training of the riders. I will be in charge of the technical part, as well as the training and organizing the competitions – just like I did for the Dutch."
Ehrens will start in his new position at the beginning of January. "I thought long about it, but it felt good," he says. "I feel young enough to take on a new challenge, and I like the people involved – I have followed these riders for a long time already. However, it is a big task, and it won't be easy: Our first goal is a gold medal at the 2023 Asian Games, and then we aim to get the qualification for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games."
