On Friday afternoon, David Simpson (IRL) and the 11-year-old Pjotr van de Kruishoeve (Bamako de Muze x Taran de La Pomme) won the second qualifier in the Al Shira’aa Derby Tour, the CSI4* 1.50m presented by Dreame, at the Al Shira’aa German Jumping and Dressage Derby in Klein Flottbek in Hamburg, Germany.
“The Harley-Davidson bit was definitely fun,” the 37-year-old said about receiving a Harley as the winner’s prize. “But the Derby course with Pjotr was even better.” Second and third places went to Great Britain’s Guy Williams on Crumbgraft (LB Crumble x Landgraf) and Luxembourg’s Charles Hubert Chiche aboard Andain du Thalie (Calvaro F.C. x Quick Star) – who galloped across the finish line separated by a mere hundredth of a second. In fourth place in the strong Derby field was Germany’s 25-year-old Clara Blau with Paul (Sunrise x Lucnaor), followed by Frederic Tillmann (GER) on DSP Comanche VL (Cellestial x Loredo) in fifth.
Friday’s only five-star class, the CSI5* 1.50m Prize of Deutsche Kreditbank AG, went to Spain’s Imma Roquet Autonell and the 10-year-old Elba del Maset (Eilan de Maset x Indret del Maset). With a time of 35.66 seconds in a jump-off of eleven, Roquet Autonell and Elba del Maset took the win ahead of Janne Friederike Meyer-Zimmermann (GER) and My Lady Lavista (Mylord Carthago x Levisto) in second in 36.41 and Rene Dittmer (GER aboard Cody 139 (Casall x Quidam de Revel) in third in 36.43.
