Frederic Tillmann (GER) and the 12-year-old gelding DSP Comanche VL (Cellestial x Loredo) won the CSI4* 1.55m German Jumping Derby presented by Melitta at the Al Shira’aa German Jumping and Dressage Derby in Klein Flottbek in Hamburg, Germany, on Sunday.
Tillmann and DSP Comanche VL entered the derby course as the 14th of 32 starters. Cheered on by thousands of spectators, the pair cleared one difficult fence after another, jumping the 166th clear round in the history of the German Jumping Derby in 164.30 seconds. Simon Heineke (GER) and Cordillo 3 (Corrido x Candillo) delivered a clear round number 167, and the 95th German Jumping Derby was to be decided in a jump-off. In the jump-off, Tillmann produced another clear, taking the win ahead of Heineke who had to settle for the second place with eight penalties.
“This was my third time in a derby jump-off,” Tillmann explained afterwards. “I hadn’t finished so well on the previous two occasions, but I’ve learnt from those mistakes. Today everything went to plan. The two minutes I then had to wait before I found out Simon’s result – those were the worst.”
Andre Tieme (GER) and Paule S (Perigueux x Sir Shutterfly) placed third, followed by Stephan Dubsky (IRL) on C the Stars (Contendro I x Cassini II) in fourth and Guy Williams (GBR) aboard BH Gringos Legacy (Tullibards Bennys Legacy x Colousfield) in fifth.
