Leopold van Asten and VDL Groep Falco were the best out of a field of 95 horse-and-rider combinations in Saturday’s CSI4* 1.45m Frans Wijlaars Small Grand Prix at the Andalucia Sunshine Tour 2022 in Vejer de la Frontera, Spain.
It was a tough task that waited in the David Broome arena, and eventually 15 pairs jumped clear over the twelve-fence track set by Louis Konickx (NED) to go through to the jump-off where Leopold van Asten (NED) and the 12-year-old gelding VDL Groep Falco (Clearway x Jalisco B) were the fastest when stopping the clock at 34.11 seconds. Iván Serrano Sáes (ESP) took a popular second place for the hosts with a time of 34.51 seconds with Rain Man (Chacco-Blue x Pilot) while third place went to Thibaut Keller (SUI) on Arley de Vayrie (Padock du Plessis *HN x Quite Easy) after the two crossed the finish line in 34.70 seconds. Pierre Alain Mortier (FRA) finished fourth with Just Do It R (Action Breaker x Baloubet du Rouet), while fifth went to Jeremy Sweetnam (IRL) on Brown Star Z (Big Star Jr K Z x Numero Uno).
