Pedro Veniss (BRA) and Böckmanns Lord Pezi Junior (Böckmann's Lord Pezi x Quattro) bested a field of 85 horse-and-rider combinations in Friday's CSI4* 1.50m John Deere Big Tour at the Sunshine Tour in Vejer de la Frontera, Spain. This Grand Prix qualifier counting for the Longines Ranking was a tough test, and in the end it was only sixteen pairs that managed to answer all the questions asked by course designer Gregory Bodo around his twelve-fence track set in the David Broome arena.
Aboard his 14-year-old stallion, Veniss posted the fastest clear of the class when stopping the clock at 64.53 seconds. Almost two seconds behind, in 66.41, followed in-form Sergio Alvarez Moya (ESP) and Charisma HS (Uriko x Cassito), while the third place went to Steve Guerdat (SUI) and Dynamix de Belheme (Snaike de Blondel x Cornet Obolensy) in 66.89 seconds. Kevin Jochems (NED) and Flying Jackie (Nabab de Reve x Voltaire) finished fourth, while James Davenport (GBR) took fifth with One Way (Argento x Malito de Reve).
In the 1.45m Big Tour counting for the Longines Ranking, jumped in the Hickstead arena, Sanne Thijssen (NED) and Cupcake Z (Chacco-Blue x Caretano Z) were the fastest in the second phase. Crossing the finish line in 25.85 seconds, Thijssen left Ales Opatrny (CZE) and Holland TN (Breitling LS x Drosselklang II) behind her in second – with 0.14 seconds separating the two riders. The third place went to Niamh McEvoy (IRL) and Aconzina PS (Action-Breaker x Conthargos), followed by Matthew Sampson (GBR) in fourth with MGH Candy Girl (Sligo Candy Boy x Cruising) and Jens Baackmann (GER) in fifth with Aglaia J (Arpeggio x Lancino de L)
