As the seventh and last week of the 2023-edition of the Andalucía Sunshine Tour in Vejer de La Frontera, Spain, is turning towards its end, Saturday's CSI4* 1.45m Big Tour saw the host nation’s riders in great form.
With a time of 25.76 in the second phase, Spain's Kevin Gonzalez De Zarate Fernandez and the 12-year-old Kilimanjaro van Overis Z (Kashmir van Schuttershof x Amoroso van de Helle) took the win ahead of their compatriot Jose Fumero Hernandez (ESP) and the 8-year-old Figuier du Roc (Upsilon x L'Arc de Triomphe) in second in 28.09. Portugal's Duarte Seabra and the 9-year-old Fernhill Balou Beau (Sligo Candy Boy x Cavalier Royale) placed third in 28.67, while France's Edward Levy and Igins du Seigneur (Inshallah de Muze x Ogano Sitte) finished fourth in 29.15 and his compatriot Laura Monier fifth in 29.17 aboard Attaque (Armitage x Quinar Z).
The biggest class of the day was the CSI4* 1.45m Small Grand Prix, counting for the Longines Ranking, where the victory went to Brazil's Pedro Veniss and the 14-year-old Böckmann's Lord Pezi Junior (Böckmann's Lord Pezi x Quattro). With a time of 31.35, Veniss and Lord Pezi Junior were the quickest in a jump-off between 16 horse-and-rider-combinations – taking the top honours ahead of their compatriot Carlos Eduardo Mota Ribas and the 9-year-old Trix (Asterix E Z x Skippy II) in the runner-up position in 32.37. Edward Levy and Broadway de Mormoulin (Kannan x For Pleasure) placed third in 32.49, while Germany’s Sophie Hinners and Hialita B (Emerald x Vaillant) finished fourth in 33.56 and Spain’s Mariano Martinez Bastida fifth in 34.02 aboard Elixir de Hus (L'Arc de Triomphe x Fergar Mail).
