At CSI5* Hubside Jumping Grimaud in St. Tropez, France, the weekend kicked off with Rene Lopez Lizarazo (COL) and Stalognia (Stakkatol x Chacco-Blue) winning Thursday's 1.50m class counting for the Longines Ranking.
With a time of 64.05 seconds, Lopez Lizarazo topped a field of 51 horse-and-rider combinations. Simon Delestre (FRA) on Cayman Jolly Jumper (Hickstead x Quaprice Boimargot Quincy) took the runner-up position after stopping the clock at 64.31 seconds, while Emanule Gaudiano (ITA) on Nikolaj de Music (Kannan x Nabab de Reve) placed third in 64.69. Kevin Staut (FRA) on Tolede de Mescam Harcour (Mylord Carthago x Kouglof II) placed fourth and Marlon Modolo Zanotelli (BRA) on Cartaro 2 (Carinue x Chacco-Blue) fifth.
"Stalognia, my thirteen-year-old mare, was exceptional as usual," Lopez Lizarazo said in a press release from Hubside Jumping. "During the warm-up, I felt her in really good shape, she showed that she wanted to go there and win. In the ring, I tried to bother her as little as possible, letting her gallop. She's so respectful, she's such a great lady, that I just had to let her go in her gallop. She has a huge stride, so in some lines I can afford to take off a stride quite easily."
The other CSI5* class of the day, a 1.45m Grand Prix qualifier – also counting for the Longines Ranking – went to Olivier Perreau (FRA) on GL Events Dolce Deceuninck (Toulon x Cartier van de Heffinck) with a time of 62.93 seconds. Penelope Leprevost (FRA) and Djagger Semilly (Diamant de Semilly x Apache d'Ardiers) took the runner-up position after clocking the time of 63.65 seconds, while Kevin Jochems (NED) on Cornetboy (Cornet's Stern x Colander) placed third, Victor Bettendorf (LUX) on Simolo de la Roque Z (Spartacus x Casall) fourth and Philippe Rozier (FRA) on Night Light van't Ruytershof (Gemini x For Pleasure) fifth.
"GL events Dolce Deceuninck was fantastic, I'm delighted with this victory," Perreau said in a press release from Hubside Jumping. "She is the ideal mare for speed classes. To be honest, I didn't follow the class very much. I had two horses entered, Dolce and GL events Venizia d'Aiguilly, who jumped at the start of the class. With Venizia, I considered this round as a training – looking towards the Grand Prix on Sunday."
