The CSI3* competitions at the 2021-edition of the Sunshine Tour in Vejer de la Frontera, Spain, kicked off on Thursday and the German riders were at the top of their game.
The biggest class of the day was the 1.50m, which had 57 entries competing in the stunning David Broome grass arena over a track set by the Dutch course designer Louis Konickx. The class was won by David Will (GER) and the experienced gelding Forest Gump 29 (Forsyth x Feuerwerk), after the pair stopped the clock at 60.98 seconds. In second place followed Will’s compatriot and colleague Richard Vogel (GER) with Morton v’t Merelsnest (Nabab de Reve x Darco), with a time of 62.13. Third place was taken by Gudrun Patteet (BEL), riding the mare Sea Coast Monalisa van’t Paradijs (Bamako de Muze x Emerald) to a time of 66.64 seconds.
Richard Vogel couldn’t have started off his Sunshine Tour much better. On top of being second in the biggest class of the day, the German rider also had great success in the 1.45m Big Tour – winning with Never Walk Alone (Numero Uno x Mytens XX), as well as topping the 1.45m Medium Tour with Alentejo (Nartago x Skippy II).
